Hey Guys!
Today, Friday the 5th of March
Continuing from Wednesday...
Open scene, Girl going to hotel, sceptic hotel worker asking for her to watch the show, he seemed like a person with mental health issues.
Rio: Main character and Enemy is in the same scene (blue bird and the poachers). Colour is a kids genre. There is a song at the beginning of movie so it'll be a musical.
Homework: Watch something and explain what happens in the opening scene. Identify techniques used for this open scene. How it leads into the story? How does this introduce the audience to genre?
Rio: Main character and Enemy is in the same scene (blue bird and the poachers). Colour is a kids genre. There is a song at the beginning of movie so it'll be a musical.
Mr. Fox: Fox knows what to do when stealing, weren't panicking when capture. Every day chores/hobbies ie, jogging. Nothing too extreme like plane crash, extra.
An American Tail: Tragedy event happening, they have to go/do somewhere.
Jaws: The audience knows what is happening, but the talent/character doesn't know what's going to
happen. Music queue.
Scream: Audience doesn't know now, but later in the movie it shows itself, like a future scene. Item keep showing throughout the scene.
Beauty and the Beast: A voice telling a story/sets up the story, images to show the story. Usually good for story, like fairytales but not mystery stories.
Memento: Reverse of an event that happened. Time isn't going to the move in a linear fashion.
Up: Giving the viewer the knowledge of time going by fast/history. Usually visually telling a story, not voice with it.

Shall you assume what the audience knows and not knows.
Short Exercise:
Use 3 act structure to develop an idea based on the following:
- Joke - find a joke or use your favourite (keep it clean)
- Flash Fiction - see a 'Very Short Story' by Ernest Hemingway or The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
- Inanimate object - see Luxo or Fulfilament
- Write a piece of dialogue between two character around an object in a room (a vase, a suitcase or box). The object becomes a real force of significance.
Rough Idea:
There is a class room filled with students and a tutor, the tutor is teaching the classroom, but doesn't know that one student isn't any normal student.
Voice whispers to the student, "What is with this tutor?"
Student replies to the voice, "Why are you here?"
Voice, "Well I'm bored, and I can tell you are too"
Student, "Well I gotta learn, and this is how we learn"
Voice, "But this is boring" the voice notice the pen beside the student's book, about to fall of. "Your pen is about to fall off the table"
Student ignores the voice, continuing to focus on the tutor.
Voice "Hey, aren't you listening to me? Your pen is about to fall off. Aren't you going to prevent it?"
Student still ignore the voice, and the pen rolls off. The voice rushes to prevents the falling of the pen. It catches it before it falls onto the floor. The voice puts the pen back onto the table.
Voice "Hey, I know society says you have to ignore me as I might be a bad influence but..." the voice looks at the student, the student actively ignores the voice. The voice sighs "you wouldn't care what I got to say anyway." and drifts away.
The student doesn't care.
But the person behind the student, noticed the pen floated back up to the deck.
(End Story)
Ugh don't like this, it isn't a 3 act structure. Ask Traci, she suggested to make the voice a do other things to get the student attention. More straightforward approach.
Okapodi - Short short, act one, two octopus together, girlfriend gets taken, boy tries and get her back to prevent her death, he save her, the person gets dunk onto ocean, the octopi are together, then the boy gets taken by the bird, girl goes an try save them.
Alma - Alma the child write name on wall, a doll appears across from the wall, in mystery store, the dolls looks alike of the child. Child tries and gets it. Door lock, child gets in, doll moves, then child try and reaches from the doll, touches it and becomes it. Foreshadows it for the next child.
Homework 2:
- Write a brief outline of the story.
- Identify the 3 act of your story
- Who is the main character/protagonist?
- What is the 'conflict' that the protagonist must overcome?
- How do they change/what is the character's arc?
- Include all of this in your blog for the week
- Be prepared to share next week.
